2. Every Yes Requires Many No's.

Read that again and be honest about the last time you said yes to a customer you should have passed. The last time your sales team chased every lead the market offered instead of the ones the architecture was designed to serve.

That is not a sales problem. That is a strategy problem. And it manifests in AI adoption the same way it manifests in every other strategic domain.

Here is how you know which one you are doing: if your AI strategy conversation is primarily about which tools are mature enough right now, you are in the snapshot. If it is about what architecture needs to be in place for where the market is heading, you are in the film.

Snapshot thinkers see the current AI moment and make a reasonable assessment: the tools are not mature enough yet, the ROI is not proven enough yet, the timing is not right yet.

Film thinkers see the trajectory. They see that every quarter of delay is a quarter of compounding advantage gifted to the competitors who have already committed. They see that the "not yet" position looks different at the 12-month mark than it looks today. They see that the organizations winning the next technology transition are building the architecture now, while the snapshot thinkers are still evaluating whether the moment has arrived.

It always feels too early. Until it feels too late.

There is no in-between moment that feels exactly right. That moment is a fiction invented by the snapshot to justify the delay.

10. Don't Bet on Games You Can't Win. Change the Game.

Godin's final collision point with Strategic AI, and the most important one:

When the game is structured so that the only successful path destroys you — walk away. Find a better game. Play where your strengths define the rules, not where the rules eliminate your strengths.
